Book and movie Pairings

Hello Fantasy lovers! Today I have some book and movie pairings that work well together! Some are the book from the movie or the movie from the book and some simply compliment each other really well.

First up, we have our sci-fi genre:

Book: The Infinity Courts by Akemi Dawn Bowman

Movie/Tv show: The Matrix Movie series

This pairing intertwines the priorities of both the protagonists in the movie and the book. Both deal with the idea of something bigger than the human race and the idea of a threat to humanity becoming a vital role in the future. Both exhibit incredible action and plot twists turning around every corner. A must read for fans of the matrix movies.

Secondly, we have our romance genre:

Book: To all the Boys I’ve loved before by Jenny Han

Movie/Tv show: Purple Hearts Movie

While the book by Jenny Han focuses on the teenage love life and the complications and changes of a teenage girl who sends out love letters to her crushes on accident, the movie purple hearts focuses on a slightly older main character. The movie revolves around an arranged marriage, much like the fake dating in Jenny Han’s book. Both go through the fluctuations of life and the challenges and difficulties, while different and not the same settings, both explore the rapid change of life at different times in life.

Thirdly, we have our fantasy genre:

Book: A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy Lin

Movie/Tv show: Shadow and Bone Tv Series

While both are fantasy these two are vastly different. In saying this though, when reading A Magic Steeped in Poison I felt as though I had been transported back into a world like the Grishaverse as it was immersed in vibrant characters and worlds which reminded me of Ravka and instantly made me think of the magic that is Shadow and Bone. As well as this, the story is full and plot driven, making it an absolute page turner. The series, while unfortunately now cancelled, has matching books to go with it as well which also are an amazing read.

Lastly, we have our YA contemporary genre:

Book:  Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean

Movie/Tv show: From me To you (Kimi Ni Todoke)きみにとどけ

This pairing is focused on Japan. Tokyo Ever After is an amazing book revolving around a girl told she is actually the next Princess of Japan. Thrown out of her normal routine life and into the palace, everything is different. While From Me To You is not the same as someone who does not find out they are actually royalty, the main character steps out of her comfort zone and in turn is made into a different person by the actions of others, juxtaposing someone made into a different person by the result of outside information.

Both are a great light hearted read/watch.

That’s all for today but look out for new blog posts soon!
