We all have those friends who adore books just like we do, but the main thing we want: books, aren't always attainable for some reason. We created this list of alternatives that any book lover would still be happy to receive (although books are probably the top present).
If books aren’t available, the next best thing is merchandise from a fandom your friend loves or homemade merchandise such as bookmarks. Another thing to get a book lover is something from Etsy or Red Bubble that they love. For example, a Stranger Things pin to wear on their bag or clothes.
Bookmarks are always a great present, especially when they are related to something that the person loves. They can be homemade or store-bought but each holds a special value (and page). A great place for bookmarks is Cook and Young’s bookstore and Dymocks. While both mainly sell books they happen to have a range of bookmarks of the finest quality.
Another great gift for booklovers is additions to their bookcases. Whether it be little trinkets that look cool or fairy lights to hang from one of the shelves, they can add personality to a shelf and create a cosy environment to read/study/work/anything in. A great place to get trinkets for bookshelves is opp shops or online stores such as Etsy or Red Bubble. A good place to get fairy lights from is Typo, Target, Kmart, or Big W.
A good gift for booklovers that they may also like is a special edition of one of their favourite books, or even a signed copy - if you can get a hold of one. If not though, a hardback would suffice or an anniversary edition of the book.
And of course, the most obvious gift for book lovers…books! But, how do you know which books to buy? Or where to get them for the cheapest price? A great tactic that we use when buying books for other people is searching up books similar to… and then input a title that the person loves. It isn’t always accurate and if you’ve read the book yourself it always helps because you can personally ascertain whether the person will enjoy it or not.
And last but not least, a good gift idea for book lovers is fanart of their favourite series/characters/books/etc. Fanart can be purchased from Etsy or Red Bubble and is always a great addition to a book corner or room.
